In recognition of the leadership qualities that Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) student Francisco Gonzalez displays each day, he was recently awarded a prestigious Navy ROTC scholarship to continue his education.
Gonzalez, senior at Harlingen High School South, was awarded a $180,000 scholarship by the organization to attend Texas A&M University in the fall.
To celebrate, school and district administrators, teachers and students gathered to witness a check presentation to Gonzalez from a Navy representative Officer Perry Mata on May 5.
He was selected based on his excellent academic standing throughout high school and his performance on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test. After going through an intense application process, he reached the final interviews in San Antonio last month.
