Harlingen CISD is proud to announce that Tanya Garza has been selected as Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education.
Garza has 22 years of experience in education and has dedicated 15 of those years to Harlingen CISD. During her time in the district, she has served as an elementary bilingual teacher, instructional facilitator, assistant principal, and principal. Most recently, she served as Executive Director for Curriculum and Instruction.
During her time as principal at Zavala Elementary, she was recognized as the 2016 Region One TEPSAN of the Year and 2017 Apple Distinguished Educator.
Garza holds a bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood and a master’s in Educational Administration from the University of Texas-Pan American.
“As I step into the new role of Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education, I feel deeply honored and motivated to make a meaningful impact on the academic journey of young learners,” Garza said. “Embracing this responsibility with enthusiasm, I am eager to collaborate with educators, parents, and stakeholders to ensure every child receives a quality education and the support they need to thrive.”
