Harlingen CISD Trustees name Dr. Alicia Noyola as finalist for Superintendent position

On Monday night, December 14, the Harlingen CISD Board of Trustees named Dr. Alicia Noyola as the Lone Finalist for the Superintendent position being vacated by the retirement of long-time Superintendent Dr. Art Cavazos.

With over 30 years of experience in public education, including 17 years of service at Harlingen CISD, Dr. Noyola is imminently qualified to become the District’s next Superintendent. Dr. Noyola is currently serving as the Chief Academic Officer for HCISD and has been in that position for the past eight years. Prior to that, Dr. Noyola served for eight years as the Principal of Vela Middle School. She also worked as a teacher and Director of Student Teaching.

Dr. Noyola received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas-Pan American, her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas–Brownsville, and her Doctorate Degree from The University of Houston.

“With her vast and wide array of experience in education over the past 30 years, including the last 17 at HCISD, we are confident in Dr. Noyola as our lone finalist.” Said Board President Eladio Jaimez. “We have made great strides as a district, and we are confident we will continue in that path under Dr. Noyola’s committed leadership.”

Dr. Noyola’s experience and qualifications with Harlingen CISD affirm that she is extremely knowledgeable of and will continue to seamlessly implement the District’s vision and goals. “We believe that she will continue Dr. Cavazos’ legacy while at the same time ensuring that her own innovations and vision are carried out in the coming years. We look forward to a bright future under Dr. Noyola’s leadership.”

After being named, Dr. Noyola expressed her appreciation for the Board’s decision. “I am humbled and honored to have been selected as HCISD’s lone finalist and look forward to working with our incredible Board of Trustees, staff, students and parents to continue the tradition of excellence our community has come to expect.”

The District is required to comply with the state-mandated 21 day waiting period prior to hiring Dr. Noyola as the Superintendent of Schools. After a minimum of 21 days, the Board will officially hire Dr. Noyola and execute the Superintendent’s contract.

It is the Board’s intent that Dr. Noyola will assume her role as the Superintendent of Schools soon thereafter. To assist in a smooth transition and to ensure that the District’s vision carries on, Dr. Cavazos will serve as Superintendent Emeritus until June 30, 2021.
