Dr. Gina Cano-Monreal was officially sworn in as a member of the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees on August 9 at a regular board meeting.
“I am extremely humbled and excited at the opportunity to serve as an HCISD Board of Trustee,” Dr. Cano-Monreal said.
Dr. Cano-Monreal was appointed by the board of trustees to fill the vacancy left by former board member Gerry Fleuriet. She will serve the unexpired term through May 2023.
“We are super excited to have Dr. Gina Cano-Monreal joining us on the board,” Board President Dr. Bobby Muniz said. “We are very confident in her ability to serve our community and students.”
Dr. Cano-Monreal currently serves as the statewide Vice President for Online Learning at Texas State Technical College.
“Our board of trustees provide our district with leadership, stability, and continuity,” Superintendent Dr. Alicia Noyola said. “We have seen that impact over the last couple of years, and their leadership has brought the district to where it is today. Dr. Cano-Monreal will enhance that and bring value to this team.”
Dr. Cano-Monreal is a Harlingen native and Harlingen High School graduate. She and her husband David Monreal are the proud parents of a sophomore at Harlingen School of Health Professions and a sixth grader at Gutierrez Middle School of Arts and Sciences.
“My husband and I are proud products of HCISD, and our children are now growing up in its schools,” Dr. Cano-Monreal said. “I can’t think of a better place to dedicate my time and service.”
