The Harlingen CISD Board of Trustees at a board meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 4 presented awards to five students who have been recognized as All-State Athletes.
Harlingen High School football athletes Kilyn Muñoz, William Herring, Ralph Soto as well as Harlingen High School South football athlete Joshua Rodriguez earned the recognition. Additionally, Harlingen Cardinals football trainer Madeline Swinnea was recognized.
To qualify for Academic All-State, student-athletes and trainers must be in good standing with their team, have good moral character, and have an overall grade point average of 92 or above, according to information provided by the Texas High School Coaches Association and Coaches Education Foundation.
Their grade point average and ACT/SAT scores are also taken into consideration.
“We applaud them for their commitment and dedication to perform with the highest of excellence academically and on the field or court,” according to a statement by the THSCA. “We understand that students’ performance in the classroom can sometimes be difficult to manage while participating in athletics, but their hard work has not gone unnoticed.”
