We are proud to announce that the Vela Middle School Jazz Band, Vela Jazz I, has been invited to perform at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio on February 8.
The ensemble was selected through a competitive blind audition. This designation is awarded to only one group annually.
Since 2020, under the direction of Erika R. Uribe, Vela Jazz I has been invited to perform for conferences as a demonstration band in Dallas, Chicago, Orlando, and San Antonio on multiple occasions.
“We are beyond excited for our students to have the opportunity to perform for educators from around the world at the 104th Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention,” Band Director Erika R. Uribe said. “Vela Jazz I would like to thank their parents, the entire Moises Vela Middle School Family, the Harlingen CISD Administration, and the HCISD School Board for their continued support and encouragement throughout the years.”
