The HCISD Transition Academy welcomed the Harlingen Police Department for its first Thankful Thursday. Students and staff at the academy hosted a heartwarming get-together with breakfast tacos, delicious doughnuts, and various board games to create a time of camaraderie with Harlingen Police Department officers.

Transition Academy teacher Maira Gutierrez kicked off the event with some words of gratitude.

“Here at the Transition Academy, we take pride in our community,” she said. “We take pride in the work that we do, and we take pride in the partnerships we have. The Harlingen Police have always been on our side and have been here for us, so we thank them.”

Harlingen Police officers attended the Transition Academy home to eat, talk, play games, and get to know the students.

“This is such a great time to meet you, to talk to you, visit with you, and have some great food,” Harlingen Police Chief Michael Kester said to the students. “Thank you all for bringing us over here.”

Transition academy students also took the time to dedicate some words of thanks to police officers in attendance.

“We see you, we appreciate you, and we thank you for all you do,” Transition Academy Ambassador Melanie Garcia said

The HCISD Transition Academy hopes to continue this Thankful Thursday initiative to show appreciation to its community partners.
