Now that school has started, Harlingen CISD is providing technical support through the HCISD Technology Help Desk. Students, parents, and staff can call if they need assistance connecting to their device, or if they are having issues logging in to classes.
On the first day of school, the phones began ringing even before 8 a.m.
“We are helping out parents that are calling us that their passwords aren’t working,” Aquatic Center Lifeguard Aries Hernandez said. “If we cannot help, we refer them to the technology department.”
When parents or students call the help desk, there are five HCISD Aquatic Center lifeguards on the other end, ready to save students and parents from their troubles with technology.
“There was a student who was trying to get into their class, and it wasn’t going through,” Aquatic Center Lifeguard David Guerra said. “They finally called, and I was able to reset it from here myself. Then they were able to log in, and you could just literally, audibly hear the stress leaving their body.”
Back at the HCISD Aquatic Center, these same lifeguards are preparing digital content for second-grade students who typically learn the basics of swimming at the aquatic center.
“We are making videos for the second-graders so that if they don’t get to come to our facility, they will still know what the fundamentals of swimming are,” Aquatic Center Lifeguard Michelle Bishop said. “We go over water safety too. We have actually been recording ourselves so that we can show the second graders an intro to the aquatic center, but it’s definitely different than getting in the water and teaching.”
In the meantime, the HCISD Aquatic Center lifeguards will keep answering phones to help those struggling with technology.
You can reach the HCISD Technology Help Desk at 956-577-0180 Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Computer technicians will also be available in the evening Monday-Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
