Superintendent, Dr. Art Cavazos was recognized on Saturday, June 28, for his efforts to promote library services within the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District.
The American Association of School Librarians presented Dr. Cavazos with the Distinguished School Administrators Award at the AASL’s Awards Luncheon during the 2014 American Library Association Annual Conference.
A strong advocate for literacy, Dr. Cavazos has made it top priority to expand the services offered at HCISD’s Information Literacy Centers (ILCs). The transformation of the ILCs has been essential in equipping students with the tools for 21st century collaborative learning. This move further supports and enhances learning in HCISD classrooms.
The American Association of School Librarians, www.aasl.org, a division of the American Library Association (ALA), promotes the improvement and extension of library services in elementary and secondary schools as a means of strengthening the total education program. Its mission is to advocate excellence, facilitate change and develop leaders in the school library field.
