Harlingen High School and Memorial Middle School will have new Assistant Principals stepping onto campus after the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the hires during Tuesday night’s regular meeting.
Antonio C. Layton Jr. will step in at HHS after working as a math teacher, Instructional Technology Specialist and Testing Facilitator at Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District for the past 10 years.
Layton has both bachelors and masters degrees in mathematics from the University of Texas Pan-American. He takes over the position vacated by William Rayer, who retired.
At Memorial Middle School, Saul Ibarra will step in as Assistant Principal after nine years at Gutierrez Middle School as a teacher and coach.
Ibarra has a bachelors degree in elementary education and masters degrees in educational leadership from the University of Texas at Brownsville. He was also a member of the 2010 Aspiring Assistant Principal Academy, organized through the HCISD Human Resource Department.
