HPD treats 68 students to holiday shopping

Harlingen Police Department and the Harlingen community came together on Dec. 20 for the biggest Shop with a Cop event to date.

For the third year in a row, select fifth-graders from across HCISD were treated to a day of holiday shopping at the Target store in Harlingen followed by lunch and a game of bowling at Bass Pro Shops.

Officers guided 68 smiling students through store aisles where they had the chance to find the perfect item. Each student was given $100 to spend. A rewarding experience for all involved, the event also gave students the opportunity to get to know law enforcement officers and community leaders.

The event was made possible through the contributions of community members, Target, Bass Pro Shops, FedEx, City of Harlingen, Department of Public Safety, Border Patrol, Cameron County, and many more.
