Harlingen Rotary recently donated $1,900 to three families at Rodriguez Elementary, Bowie Elementary, and Coakley Middle School displaced by hurricanes.
“This is what the true spirit of the holidays is all about – our community coming together to help others in their time of need,” said Superintendent Dr. Art Cavazos. “We thank the Harlingen Rotary for reaching out to our HCISD families who were impacted by recent hurricanes and for setting a great example for our students.”
With little to no personal belongings, the families were forced to leave their homes to start a new life in Harlingen. The funds will be distributed among the three families so they may purchase basic necessities like food, warm clothes, and bedding. One thousand dollars will go to the family with the most need at Rodriguez, and the remaining $900 will be divided among the families at Bowie and Coakley.
This money will help provide much needed financial relief for the families and their relatives who are assisting them as they work to get back on their feet.
