Right before the start of the 2022-2023 school year, all new teachers and other professionals joining the district were brought together for an HCISD welcome.

The luncheon, this year featuring a fiesta theme, took place on August 4 at Cano Freshman Academy.

New professionals were greeted by district administrators and then heard a few words from district and community leaders.

Superintendent Dr. Alicia Noyola expressed gratitude as she addressed the guests.

“Our goal is to find the very best people for our students, and you are the very best,” Dr. Noyola said. “I am very thrilled to have you in front of our children. I also recognize that you are selecting Harlingen, so I thank you for that choice. Our commitment to your success is there without question. You have a strong support system in Harlingen.”

Dr. Noyola went on to recognize campus and district administrators and then discussed leadership.

“Now, one of the critical pieces we talk about, like I told our first-year teachers, leadership is not about title,” she said. “It’s the actions that we take, it’s the things that we do on a daily basis and, so everybody in a classroom is in a position to lead.”

She left them with the following challenge.

“I challenge you that as you do that work, that you commit to excellence,” Dr. Noyola said. “Give it your very best. I thank you in advance for all the work I know you are going to do each and every day.”

The Vela Middle School Jazz Band provided entertainment throughout the event.

After the event, the guests had an opportunity to visit information booths.
