With the keys of a new 2014 Ford Focus in hand, Craig Kullmer smiles with disbelief as he was announced the winner of the car raffle hosted by the Harlingen Area Educational Foundation on Dec. 15.

In partnership with Boggus Ford, the raffle was held to help raise funds for the HCISD Superintendent’s Scholarship and additional educational programs. Celebrating all those who supported the initiative, HAEF hosted the prize ceremony at the HCSID administration building to recognize everyone involved and announce the grand prizewinner.

“By being here today and through your involvement, you’ve helped make a difference in the lives of students,” said HAEF Board President Janine Marie. “We thank everyone for their support.”

“Today, we see the result of many people coming together and working to make a difference in the lives of students,” said Superintendent Dr. Art Cavazos. “ I want to thank the Harlingen Area Educational Foundation Board Members for their dedication, our Harlingen CISD Board of Trustees for their vision and our community for supporting these efforts. Boggus Ford also made today possible through their donation of the 2014 Ford Focus. You are all Heroes for Harlingen CISD and know we appreciate everything you do on behalf of our students.”

The fundraiser is aligned with HAEF’s mission to support students in Harlingen and provide resources to increase overall achievement. This isn’t the first time HCISD and HAEF team up to help raise funds for students. Earlier this year, HAEF hosted their 6th Annual Partner Gala Flappers and Fellas at the Performing Arts Center.

The Harlingen Area Educational Foundation, Inc., an independent, non-profit corporation promoting quality education in Harlingen CISD schools, was established in 1990. It was organized to provide supplemental programs to support at-risk youth and to lower the dropout rate. The Foundation’s mission later expanded to generate and to distribute resources to enrich, to maintain, and to expand programs needed to meet the district’s stated mission of excellence in education. The Foundation provides funds for educational programs and activities, which either have not been funded or have been underfunded by the normal operating budget. These funds are used to facilitate student achievement and skill development and to expand community involvement for individuals, business and civic organizations.
