The beat of the Cardinal and Hawk drums and the cheer of the two schools’ cheerleaders rang through the Harlingen H-E-B store on Expressway 83 as part of the grocery store’s Sampling Showcase, which raised $3,410 for the two schools.
H-E-B and Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District hosted a two-hour event on Saturday, March 22 that brought teachers, coaches, principals, parents and high school supporters to the store to try six delectable samples from H-E-B. For each participant in the Sampling Showcase, H-E-B donated $10 to Harlingen High School and Harlingen High School South.
“We are thrilled with the community turnout for the H-E-B Weekend Sampling Showcase festivities,” Yvonne Loflin, H-E-B Border Region Public Affairs Specialist, said. “It was a day of great Harlingen school spirit, healthy food option sampling, and reading to local children. More importantly, the event helped raised much needed funds for the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District. Thank you to everyone who came out and participated, and we look forward to partnering with HCISD on another successful event. H-E-B is honored to have served this the Rio Grande Valley for 85 years, and look forward to serving this community for generations to come.”
Director of Parental Development Dr. Jose Luis Cavazos and Marketing Coordinator Corey Ryan read to children during the event. Cheerleaders from HHS and HHSS, the HHS drum line and the HHSS jazz band all performed during the event. The HHS Cardinal mascots also posed for pictures around the store.
“The students, parents and faculty sponsors who volunteered their time to participate at the event did an exceptional job representing HCISD,” said Wellness Coordinator Luis Solorio. “This was a great event, and we appreciate H-E-B for their support in our mission as a public school district in providing world class schools for every student.”
