When he’s away from his computer, resting his eyes and mind, Chacon carries himself with confidence, stopping along the way to chat with his peers in other office rooms.
“As much as I talk, I’m really a reserved person,” Chacon said. “I enjoy just sitting and listening to nature. Every now and then, I go on my roof and just lay there. Whenever the wind is chilly, and its kind of cold, I just stare out at the stars.”
For the past year, Chacon has worked as a coop student for HCISD’s Communication Department, responsible for producing and editing news and promotional videos for the school district. Video production has provided him with a creative outlet, giving him real world work experience that can only benefit him in the years to come, he said.
“If you have just a video, it can be pretty boring,” he said. “But making a video from scratch, seeing its all come together, it can be special.”
Chacon’s favorite project this year was a video focused on math curriculum, he said. The video showed parents how they can incorporate math lessons into a trip to the grocery story with their parents.”
“I got to design the animations and the graphics,” he said. “It was pretty cool getting to see the finished project. I was very proud of it.”
Chacon will attend the St. Edward’s University next fall to study criminal justice and pre-law, he said. He hopes to attend law school after finishing his undergraduate degree.
“I like to argue a lot,” he said. “Not in a bad way. I just have a knack for being persistent and finding places to make arguments.”
The HCISD Communications Department is seeking coops for video editing, web content production, graphics design and writing positions for the 2012-2013 school year. To apply, please visit your high school counselor for information.
