Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District has been recognized as a Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association for making health and wellness a priority.
“It’s incredible to be receiving the Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite award,” said Superintendent Dr. Art Cavazos. “It has been one of our initiatives as part of our strategic plan to ensure that we are providing opportunities for our staff to stay fit. We are honored to be receiving this award, and we thank the American Heart Association for all their efforts to illuminate the importance of staying fit.”
The American Heart Association recognizes employers as Fit-Friendly Worksites for creating a culture of health in the workplace through progressive leadership and employee wellness initiatives.
“HCISD was awarded the Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite award,” said Brandi Nelson, American Heart Association Youth Market Director. This award is a national recognition from the American Heart Association presented to HCISD for their dedication to the health and wellness of their employees by providing opportunities for their employees to remain active.”
HCISD was honored with this award based on its efforts in optimizing workplace health programs through access to programs and initiatives like the Aquatic Wellness Center, Valley Baptist Fitness Partnerships, Campus Wellness Lecture Series, District Health Fair, and Wellness Kickoff among others.
As a Fit-Friendly Worksite, the district receives recognition on the American Heart Association’s website and at local wellness events throughout the nation.
The American Heart Association Fit-Friendly Worksites Recognition Program is designed to be a catalyst for positive change in American business; the program recognizes employers who champion the health of their employees by creating physical activity programs within the workplace.
