Harlingen CISD to receive $200K grant for early childhood education

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation announced it will provide Harlingen CISD with a $200,000 grant to further enhance the district’s early childhood education program.

Through the foundation’s collaboration with RGV Focus, a non-profit organization, Harlingen CISD will receive the substantial grant to be directed toward its early literacy initiatives.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation provides educational grants in support of schools focused on the foundation’s vision, which includes boosting educational opportunities for student success upon graduation.

“To make this vision a reality, the foundation supports initiatives focused on ensuring that race, ethnicity and income are no longer predictors of outcomes and that all learners across Pre-K to postsecondary continuum are on track to earn a credential that carries labor market value,” according to information provided by the foundation’s P-16 initiative.

Harlingen CISD will utilize the grant over the course of about two years.
