HCISD was in full force at the UIL orchestra concert and sight reading contest earlier this week with 14 orchestras from Harlingen High School, Harlingen High School South, Dr. Abraham P. Cano Freshman Academy, Coakley Middle School, Gutierrez Middle School, Memorial Middle School, Vela Middle School and Vernon Middle School.
The following orchestras earned the highest score in the competition, a sweepstakes award, by earning a perfect score in both concert and sight-reading:

- Cano/HHS Non-Varsity
- HHSS Sub Non-Varsity
- HHSS Non Varsity A
- HHSS Varsity
- Vela Varsity
- Vela Sub Non-Varsity
- Memorial Varsity
- Vela Non-Varsity
- Vernon Varsity
The contest market the first time in the program’s history at HHS when an orchestra earned a sweepstakes and first time when a varsity orchestra earned a first division, earning perfect scores in sight-reading.
