Lamar students recycle for the holidays

Lamar Elementary School has found a way to be environmentally friendly, and spread the Christmas spirit by participating in a new campus club called the Eagle Recycle Club (ERC) on Nov. 30.

Students of the ERC walk around campus every Friday after school and look for recyclables to pick up. With the materials they find, students then create arts and crafts.

The latest  ERC project was creating Christmas ornaments out of used light bulbs, which were hand painted and customized by each student.

The club raises awareness of the importance of recycling, and encourages students to promote energy saving techniques to their friends. Diana Alfaro, library media specialist at Lamar, sponsors the club.

Participating students range from third to fifth grade.
