2016 End of the Year Message:
Dear HCISD family,
When I welcomed you back to school in August, I let you know this was going to be an exceptional school year. Thanks to the hard work of our students, their families, members of the Harlingen community and HCISD staff, 2015-2016 continues to be outstanding.
Achievements in the Three A’s (Academics, the Arts, and Athletics), garnered state and national level attention. Our students, staff, and schools have earned honors and recognitions that echo the confidence of our district. A select group of students has significantly contributed to these achievements – our graduates. The Class of 2016 continues to make HCISD proud, and we look forward to seeing what they accomplish as they take the next steps in their lives. While our seniors are making plans to pursue collegiate and professional endeavors, they have made history for our high schools.
This year, 100 percent of seniors applied to college or joined the military. That number is up 40 percent from last year. Harlingen High School and Harlingen High School South seniors also took their commitment to the next level by participating in the first Commit to Complete event. While planning to begin a college education is important, our seniors are pledging to complete their post-secondary degrees. This event and our student’s dedication to their studies is evidence that HCISD staff is preparing our students for success far beyond the classroom. Our district looks forward to watching our remaining students advance to the next grade level and bring new achievements for our schools.
As HCISD continues to make history, we offer an additional benefit to our employees. Beginning this fall, HCISD will provide full-day Pre-K to children of our employees. This opportunity allows district staff to receive the benefit of our world-class early childhood educational program.
We have also seen progress in the areas of fitness and health. This spring, the It’s Time Texas Community Challenge recognized HCISD as the healthiest mid-size school district in the state. In addition to physical health, we launched our financial fitness initiative this year. We care about our HCISD family; therefore, it’s important that we keep both physically and financially fit so that we may live happy, productive lives for our students and our families.
On behalf of HCISD, I thank you for your efforts in making this an exceptional school year. I wish you and your families a safe summer break. Take this time to enjoy each other’s company and celebrate the time you have together.
Remember, by being a part of our remarkable district, you carry the HCISD brand and your own personal brand wherever you go. Be proud of who you are and be proud of where you are from. Together, we can intensify the momentum of this year’s successes into the 2016-2017 school year.
We reach, we aspire, we dare to be. We are HCISD.
