Treasure Hills student joins HCISD through inter-district transfer

imagejpeg_0Samantha Chapa is a happy mom after she was able to enroll her daughter Lauren at Treasure Hills Elementary through the Experience HCISD enrollment program.

The Chapa family live in San Benito, but Samantha works in Harlingen at Gastroenterology Consultants of South Texas.

“My mom has been a pre-school teacher for years, so I know the importance of early childhood education,” Samantha said. “I wanted the best for Lauren, and I knew Treasure Hills Elementary has a great reputation.”

Next year, Samantha hopes her youngest daughter will get to join her sister Lauren, currently in pre-K, in HCISD schools, Samantha said.

Under the FDA (Local) exemptions adopted by the Board of Trustees in August 2011, any employee of a business within HCISD’s boundaries or any property owner with in the boundaries may send their child to HCISD schools. Last Spring, the board also adopted an exemption that allows any student who has attended any school, public or private, within the district’s boundaries, to attend HCISD schools.

In 2012-2013, HCISD had 99 students enrolled through FDA (Local) exemptions. For more information on the Experience HCISD program, please visit www.hcisd.org/enroll.
