The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District was awarded a $90,000 grant through the Texas PTA Clean School Bus Replacement Program. The funds will be used towards the purchase of two new propane equipped school buses.
Funding for the program is made possible through Texas PTA’s partnership with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). By directing penalty monies from a TCEQ enforcement action to school districts, they can advance their joint efforts to improve air quality for Texas youth.
The program assists school districts with the purchase of cleaner alternative fuel buses to reduce the emissions of diesel exhaust.
