Sam Houston places 11th, chess teams earn top marks at National Competition

On May 9-11, Dishman Elementary, Treasure Hills Elementary, Sam Houston Elementary and Coakley Middle School competed in Dallas, Tx in the National Elementary Chess Tournament.

As a team, Sam Houston placed 11^th in the K-5 Championship division. In the K-3 under 800 division, Houston placed 21^st and Dishman placed 25^th. In the K-5 under 900 division, Houston placed 31^st, Dishman placed 42^nd, and Treasure Hills placed 64^th. Dishman placed 28^th in the K-1 Championship division. Coakley placed 34^th in the K-6 under 1000 division.

Individually, students who placed in the top 100 were, Austin Kennedy from Dishman who placed 100^th, from Houston, Michael Casas placed 67^th and Carlos Deleon placed 81^st, from Coakley, Jorge Olivarez placed 78^th.
