The HCISD chess teams left an impression at their most recent tournament hosted by Ed Downs Elementary on Nov. 10.
The Sam Houston Elementary team competed in the high school division and placed fifth overall. A total of 103 teams attended the tournament.
The team consisted of Jacob Fox, Gabriela Serano, Dominque Laure, Ernesto Garcia and Ashley Young. Individually, Jacob Fox, a third grade student, placed ninth at the high school level.
Additional Sam Houston teams were able to nab third in the third grade division, and first in the first grade category.
The next competition for the HCISD chess teams will be at the Verde Rancho chess competition in Los Fresnos on Nov. 17.
