The Early College High School Robotics Team is confident that SirKit is going to do well in the 2013 Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology Competition (BEST) on Oct. 26.
SirKit is the name of the robot that the ECHS robotics team will be entering into the BEST competition this year. This type of competition consists of a specific task where the students must control the robot to pick up different pieces and build a CPU for an old robot by putting the pieces in their correct positions all within a certain time limit.
The students had six weeks to design SirKit. The students got their inspiration for their robot from last year’s design, although the students felt that the software from last year needed to be adjusted.
It’s strength include its precision and ability to pick up, transport and place objects in many directions, said Dante Hernandez, senior at ECHS.
The more than 40 students on the ECHS team are very focused on getting SirKit into top-notch shape. Each student has a specific job that they are assigned. Those assignments are based on their strongest talents.
Although the students have experience from last year’s competition, they are facing more of a difficulty level due to a change in the game rules than what they are used to. The students are up for the challenge though as they will work together to succeed this coming Saturday.
This is the year for the wonderful students of ECHS to take this competition by storm. I am so proud of our robotics team!! Come out and support our students. Go OWLS!!!!
