Campus staff, administrators, teachers, students, and parents are invited to come out in support of elementary students at the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District during the final event for Marathon Kids on Thursday, May 14.
Taking place from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at J. Lewis Boggus Stadium, the Harlingen Finisher Medal Celebration is a chance for students to celebrate the completion of their 26.2 mile challenge and earn their Marathon Kids Finisher Medal.
“This is a great challenge to keep our kids healthy and understand the importance of exercise,” said Ruben Escamilla Physical Education Teacher at Travis Elementary. “It keeps us dedicated to the district plans of ‘Commit To Be Fit.’”
First through fifth grade students began their mission at the beginning of the school year by pledging to eat healthy and participate in exercise. Runners and walkers participated in local running events and logged the progress of their distance. Over the course of the season, runners completed their goal or will finish the remaining distance during the final portion of the annual event.
The event is part of the nonprofit organization, which is dedicated to improving the health of children by providing them with the motivation, tools, and support in order to live happier, healthier lifestyles.
