Lamar recycling club raises $1,350 for wildlife

The student’s at Lamar Elementary School are helping save sea turtles across the globe and close to home.

The Eagle Recycle Club (ERC) at Lamar sponsored a fundraiser for Sea Turtle Inc. on South Padre Island. Lamar raised a total of $1,350. The mission at Sea Turtle Inc. is to rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured sea turtles, educate the public, and assist with conservation efforts for all marine turtle species.

In order to raise money to help the sea turtles, ERC members along with their sponsor, Mrs. Alfaro students planned an activity where students brought in a dollar to change their name for the day. It was designated as Change Your Name Day, and all proceeds collected were donated to the Sea Turtle Inc.

The top two classes who raised the most money earned a field trip to visit the sea turtles and drop off donation on April 5.

Because of their contribution, Lamar Elementary will have their name placed on a special plaque at Sea Turtle Inc.
