Harlingen CISD is proud to announce that Beatrice Cruz has been named interim principal for Zavala Elementary.
Cruz has 23 years of experience in education. Throughout her time at HCISD, she has served as a paraprofessional and teacher at Zavala Elementary and an instructional coach at Treasure Hills Elementary.
Most recently, she served as assistant principal at Zavala Elementary.
“Zavala Elementary holds a very special place in my heart. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve as the interim principal,” Cruz said. “Alongside our amazing staff and as direct partners with our school families, we will continue to foster an environment where students are valued, challenged, and supported in their personal and academic growth.”
Beatrice Cruz holds a bachelor’s in music education from Evangel University, a master’s in educational leadership from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, and she is currently working to obtain a doctorate from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Zavala’s previous principal, Oziel Ochoa, is now serving as Director of Special Education for the district.
