The Harlingen High School South Speech, Drama, and Debate team continued to soar above the competition at the Reagan Dutch Invitational in San Antonio.
HHSS earned first place out of 32 high schools. Schools included the highly competitive Austin Westlake, Winston Churchill, and St. Mary’s Hall.
Individually, Jann Soto placed 2nd in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking and 3rd in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Kurt Hoelscher placed 6th in Novice Extemporaneous Speaking, Joshua Garcia placed 4th in Novice Prose Interpretation. Matthew Cannon placed 8th in Dramatic Interpretation, 4th in Humorous Interpretation, and 6th in Duo Interpretation with partner Sawyer Warrenberg. These two also placed First in Duet Acting. Warrenburg individually placed 7th in Dramatic Interpretation, and 2nd in Humorous Interpretation.
Rebecca Pockrus placed 5th in Dramatic Interpreation, 3rd in Humorous Interpretation, 4th in Duet Acting with partner Lesly Garcia, and first in Duo Interpretation with partner Matthew Almaguer. Almaguer also placed first in Varsity Prose, first in Dramatic Interpretation, and 2nd in Varsity Poetry.
McKayla Davis placed 7th in Varsity Prose Interpretation. Jeremy Marquez placed 4th in Varsity Prose and 7th in Humorous Interpretation. Collin Flemmons placed 7th in Student Congressional Debate.
With their combined individual awards, the HHSS team brought home the first place overall sweepstakes title.
