Students at the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District crossed the finish line and accomplished their goal of staying active on May 18.

Campus based staff, administrators, teachers, students, and parents came out to support the elementary students at HCISD during the final event for Marathon Kids. The event is part of the nonprofit organization, which is dedicated to improving the health of children by providing them with the motivation, tools, and support in order to live happier, healthier lifestyles.

Marathon Kids brought together nearly 3,000 children, families, teachers and local supporters from across the Rio Grande Valley to San Benito’s Bobby Morrow Stadium. This year more than 10,000 students participated in the Marathon Kids 26.2-mile challenge.

First through fifth grades students began their mission at the beginning of the school year by pledging to eat healthy and participate in exercise. Runners and walkers participated in local running events, and logged the progress of their distance. Over the course of the season, runners completed the goal of 26.2 miles or finished the remaining distance during the final portion of the annual event.

Upon completion, students received a medal at the Finisher Medal Celebration for their hard work and dedication.
