Hawk powerlifters earn State championships

Harlingen High School South seniors, Caleb Davis and Daniela Maximo earned first place in their respective weight categories in powerlifting at the state level.

Davis lifted a combined weight of 1,870 pounds, beating second place in his weight class by 65 pounds at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association State meet.

I squatted 805 pounds, benched 490 pounds, and I deadlifted 575,” Davis said. “It felt really good to bring it back and just represent Harlingen the best I could.”

Maximo lifted a combined weight of 705 pounds, beating second place in her weight class by 70 pounds at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association State meet.

“I squatted 285, benched 130, and deadlifted 290,” Maximo said. “I feel very accomplished because last year I didn’t advance to State, but this year, senior year, I went all out.”

Both Hawk athletes broke personal records from the previous school year.
