Harlingen High School South’s Cierra Pena had an outstanding performance at the 2015 UIL Track and Field State Championship on May 16.
Pena received a bronze medal in the Long Jump event with a jump of 19 feet, 8 inches, breaking yet another Rio Grande Valley record. She also finished ninth in the state in the 100 Meter Dash with a run of 12.14.
“It was an awesome experience,” said Pena. “All I can say is that hard work really does pay off.”
To qualify for the State Track Meet students had to place in the Regional IV-6A Track and Field Championship held early May.
Pena will run track for the University of Texas at San Antonio this fall.
