Harlingen South FBLA students advance to nationals

The Harlingen High School South Future Business Leaders of America chapter competed at the FBLA State Conference in March. Nine members will be advancing to the national competition after earning first, second, and third place.

This year, the FBLA State Leadership Conference was held virtually, so participants submitted their work and videos of their performances via online platforms.

The following students earned recognitions in their respective events at the FBLA State Leadership Conference, making them eligible to compete at the FBLA National Leadership Conference.

Natalya Almanza competed in Database Design and Application and brought home first place. Databases are necessary to organize data and information in business. This event recognizes FBLA members who demonstrate that they have acquired entry-level skills for understanding database usage and development in business.

Abigail Aguirre, Kennedy Kibler, Emma McMinn, Ryne McMinn, and Clarissa Rubio competed in Parliamentary Procedures and placed second.  This event recognizes FBLA members who demonstrate knowledge of parliamentary procedure principles along with an understanding of FBLA’s organization and procedures. This event is based on team rather than individual competition. Team participants develop speaking ability and poise through competitive performance.

Deztiny Mar, Victoria Flores, and Abbeny Solis competed in Management Decision Making and placed third.  This event is about making critical decisions that provide the right direction and a winning position in today’s business world. This essential to good management. Business executives must make high-quality, nearly instantaneous decisions all the time. The ability to make the right decisions concerning vision, growth, resources, strengths, and weaknesses leads to a successful business. It is management’s responsibility to manage for today and tomorrow, to manage for optimum efficiency, and to manage to compete in the marketplace.  This event recognizes members who demonstrate these qualities.

Participants from across Texas attend this exciting conference every year to enhance their business skills, expand their networks, and participate in more than 70 business and business-related competitive events.

The Future Business Leaders of America National Conference will take place during the last week of June 2021.
