Harlingen High School students earn spot on state music ensembles

MAR_7926

Keeping in tune with someone of the best student musicians in the state of Texas, Harlingen High School students Carter mink and Stephen Garcia have proven themselves to be part of that select few.

The students recently earned a spot on their respective 2014 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All State ensembles.

Mink was ranked first chair in the All State Symphony Orchestra for his musical talents with the String Bass, while Stephen Garcia also earned a first chair position for in the All State Jazz Ensemble 1 with the Bass Trombone. This is the second year Mink has earned a spot on his respective ensemble and the first for Garcia.

For students to qualify for an All State ensemble, they had to go through a series of audition rounds. Students’ musical skills were put to the test as each level of auditions increased in difficulty and competition. As a result of their All State qualification, selected students will travel to San Antonio to participate in the TMEA convention, early next year.

  1. I am so proud of these two young men. I am especially proud of Carter Mink. He was my 2nd grade student at Long Elementary. My wish would be for these young men to visit the students at Long Elementary and play for our students.
