On June 10, Dr. Bobby Muniz was officially sworn in as a member of the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees during their regular meeting.
“I feel honored and humbled to serve as a member of this prestigious Board of Trustees,” said Dr. Muniz. “ This is a diverse team with a clear mission to provide the best education possible to the students at HCISD. I look forward to working together to continue this district’s tradition of excellence.”
Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. swore him in during the meeting. His official induction follows his unanimous appointment during a special Board of Trustee meeting on June 3, where he was selected to fill the vacancy left by former board member Dr. Cesar Maldonado.
“As we continue our work, Dr. Muniz will be an asset to our organization with his expertise in medical business administration,” said Board President Greg Powers. “We are honored to have him serve as a member of our Board of Trustees.”
Dr. Muniz is currently a pharmacist and co-owner at Muniz Rio Grande Pharmacy. He is a graduate of Harlingen High School and former student of Treasure Hills Elementary and Coakley Middle School.
To honor Dr. Maldonado’s time and efforts as a Board of Trustee, the meeting also showcased a special plaque presentation with Senator Lucio and Board of Trustees providing their words of appreciation and admiration. Dr. Maldonado resigned from his position after being named the Chancellor of Houston Community College.
“Dr. Maldonado has been an innovative member of our educational community, and it has been an honor to work with him to advance our mission of providing our students with world-class schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Art Cavazos. “ We wish him well as he embarks on the next chapter of his professional career and will remain grateful for the positive impact he has had on HCISD.”
