Sylvia Gonzalez has been named Director of Family and Community Engagement.
Gonzalez has been a part of the Family and Community Engagement Department at Harlingen CISD for 18 years. She began her career in the department as a Lead Student Liaison, later becoming a Family and Outreach Specialist. Most recently, she served as the Coordinator for Attendance and Registration.
Prior to becoming an employee with the district, she served as a case manager for the Communities in Schools of Cameron County. In this role, she worked at Zavala Elementary for five years providing families and students with support and resources.
Gonzalez holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Texas A&M University Kingsville.
The Harlingen CISD Family and Community Engagement Department is responsible for providing the community with programs that keep parents involved in their child’s education, and it also helps students to make education their priority.
