Cardinals and Hawks came together to start their day with sportsmanship and a good meal at the annual Bird Bowl Breakfast on Oct. 31.
With the annual game approaching, student athletes and student leaders from Harlingen High School and Harlingen High School South met in the central administration building to eat breakfast, and discuss the upcoming event.
The event celebrated the unity between the two campuses and the entire community at the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District.
“The camaraderie present during the meeting of these two teams, reflects the unity of our district,” said Superintendent Dr. Steve Flores. “Bird Bowl will bring together 13,000 individuals to celebrate Harlingen and the outstanding work of our programs.”
Board members and administrators recognized the athletes, cheerleaders, Cardettes, Southern Stars, band members, athletic trainers and student council members for their performance this season, and encouraged them to keep up the tradition.
“You are selected leadership of your campus,” said School Board President Dr. Cesar Maldonado. “When you go back today, let them know how greatly we appreciate their efforts. We thank you for your hard work.”
HHS and HHSS will face-off at Bird Bowl XX at 7:30 p.m. at Boggus Stadium on Nov. 2.
