Cano freshmen take top spots in western art at RGV Livestock Show

Students at Cano Freshman Academy submitted their western-themed artwork to the 2021 Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show Western Art competition. Three students earned the top spots in their respective categories at this event.

Eva Sauceda placed first in the pastel category of the competition with her piece, “Starry Boots.” Her art features a pair of boots, a hat, and a rope. With her first-place win, she will have the opportunity to enter her piece into this year’s virtual auction which will be announced at a later date.

Camila Nelligan placed second in the colored pencil category with “Flowering Cactus,” a piece featuring a cactus with a blue and purple flower.

Alyssa Luna placed third in the mixed media category with her artwork, “Prize Winner” which features a student showing their animal and posing with a ribbon.

Jose Salgado and Yvette Govea also participated in the RGV Livestock Show western art competition in the pencil category.
