Santa’s elves are already working hard to make Christmas extra special for students at Bonham Elementary thanks to a donation of more than 1,000 books by the Molina Foundation.
Rosie Miller, Library Media Specialist at Bonham applied for the grant earlier this year. She along with Parent Center volunteers will begin sorting through roughly 45 boxes of books to prepare for distribution.
“This is a very positive way to express a love of reading and at the same time it is Christmas time,” Miller said. “All of our students will have a book that they can take home to enjoy with their family.”
As she gestured toward the wall of boxes that she picked up earlier this week from a distribution location in Pharr, she said she was thankful for the help of volunteers who will help her take on this project.
“Our Parent Center is a very big support,” Miller said. “Last year, when we received this grant they were the ones who organized all the books by reading level.”
Books will be delivered to each Bonham classroom by Santa and his elves right before the holidays in December.
“The fun about it is that everything is new and there are hardcover, soft cover, and activity books,” Miller said. “Most are books based on Disney characters. The children get very excited. They love them.”
