Board restructures, appoints Dr. Nolan Perez as president

The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees restructured its board during their regular meeting on May 12.

The board appointed Dr. Nolan Perez as board president, Verna Young as vice president and Gerry Fleuriet to the position of secretary for the 2015- 2016 school year.

Highly invested in maximizing educational opportunities for all students, Dr. Perez has been a member of the Board of Trustees and ambassador for HCISD since July 2010. He has gained experience from serving on other boards including: The Texas Lyceum, UT System Chancellor’s Council Executive Committee, South Texas Medical School Advisory Committee, University of Texas at Austin Development Board, Lone Star National Bank, Hooked for Life- Kids Gone Fish’n, RGV LEAD, Advocacy Alliance Center of Texas, Valley Baptist Medical Center Physician Leadership Council, Medical Director for Platinum Surgery Center, and Expert Panelist for the Texas Medical Board.

In addition to his service on the board, Dr. Perez is the CEO of Gastroenterology Consultants of South Texas, PA.

Dr. Perez will be replacing Greg Powers, who has served as president since May 2014 and has served on the board since 2010.

Verna Young will be replacing Dr. Perez as vice president and Gerry Fleuriet will be replacing Verna Young as secretary.
