The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees approved three new hires during Tuesday night’s regular meeting.
Debbie Scogin has been hired as Assistant Superintendent for Human Services. Previously serving as Director of Human Services, Scogin has been with the district since 2015. Having a career in education for 27 years, Scogin has served in various roles as teacher, curriculum specialist, assistant principal and principal. She received her Bachelors of Science and Masters of Education from the University of Texas Pan American.
The Board also approved the hire of the Sonya Brandenburg as director of the STEM² Preparatory Academy. This academy, opening Fall 2018, aims to engage middle school students in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Medicine. Sonya takes on this position after working as a science teacher, science department chair, and instructional coach at Harlingen High School. Brandenburg received her Bachelors of Science in Chemistry in 2005 from the University of Texas Pan American and her Master of Education from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
After serving as Assistant Principal of Ben Milam Elementary for nine years, Brenda McKinney has been hired as principal of the campus. McKinney previously served as an elementary and academic counselor from 1992 to 2009. She is a graduate of University of Texas- Brownsville, where she received both her bachelors and her masters degree.
