HCISD students have a new space to design, create, and explore. The district has outfitted a school bus with digital technology, WiFi access, maker spaces, and collaboration stations.

The district gathered ideas from STEM² Preparatory Academy students as to what specific items best fit their classmates’ technology needs. Then, the students did their research and made recommendations about various digital products.

“This innovative learning tool, our Tech Bus, is designed for them,” said Superintendent Dr. Alicia Noyola. “I am greatly appreciative of how our students collaborated and worked together creatively to develop a model and plan for the bus.”

The Tech Bus arrived at the campus on Tuesday as a surprise to the middle school students. Once inside, they saw activities, tablets, television screens, and books.

The opportunity to use the bus will be available to students of all grade levels, and will be used directly in the school district across the 30 campuses. It will also be showcased around town through Harlingen Market Days, district-wide events, and football games. The goal of the bus is to expand student access to digital tools and digital literacy programs.
