Harlingen High School South Latin Club team members will compete in the National Junior Classical League Competition this summer in Troy, Alabama, on July 24-29.

The South Hawk’s Latin Team was awarded the Lower Division Sweepstakes Championship – this is the second year in a row the team wins this award.

The following students advanced to compete at the national competition:

Tiffany Yeupell –  Miscellaneous Art – 6th Place
Hemma Uzoh – Latin Literature – 7th Place
Celestial Martinez – Vocal Solo – 4th Place & Classical Art History – 7th Place
Jailene Gonzalez – Vocabulary Level 2 – 8th Place & Reading Comprehension Level 2 – 9th Place
Shall Be Johnston – Reading Comprehension Level 1 –  8th Place
Valeria Montero – Mottoes and Abbreviations – 8th Place
Heather Lucente – Roman Life Level 2 – 9th Place

Maxima Cum Laude – Alexander Castillo
Magna Cum Laude – Hemma Uzoh, Mariel Calara, and Carol Escorza
Cum Laude – Jailene Gonzalez and Heather Lucente
