Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Art Cavazos welcomes students, family, teachers, and staff to the 2015-2016 school year.
Superintendent Dr. Art Cavazos’ welcome back message:
As your children return to our classrooms, I would like to welcome you back to another exceptional year at HCISD. I hope you enjoyed your summer and that you and your family have been able to relax and spend some quality time together.
In the past year, we expanded learning experiences for our students with the opening of our Harlingen School of Health Professions and our state-of-the-art Aquatics Center. These two outstanding facilities have unlocked a new world of opportunities for our students in the field of medicine through academic rigor and hands-on training, and in athletics with the ease of access to training facilities and the new SEAL program that teaches second grade students the fundamentals of swimming. Additionally, our district has seen advancements in educational offerings with the expansion of our pre-k program to an all-day schedule.
We continue to draw on the strategic plan, adopted in the spring of 2014, for our district’s course of action. This summer we picked up momentum by refinancing our bonds successfully, and we now extend our opportunity to strategically plan for HCISD’s future financial needs with the upcoming Tax Ratification Election set for September 12. Furthermore, in promoting the best interests of our students and staff while remaining fiscally responsible, our Board of Trustees unanimously approved a cost of living increase for our entire HCISD family.
Amid the progress and growth we have seen in the past years, we want to affirm that our expectations for district-wide excellence remain. Take pride in what we’ve already accomplished and remember, in all you do, that what drives our sense of purpose and meaning is our students. Please continue to uphold a high standard for yourselves, our programs, facilities, and students.
