Todd moves to Stuart as new principal

The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Michele Todd as the new principal of Stuart Place Elementary, and adopted the calendar for the 2012-2013 school year during a special meeting Wednesday night.

Todd, who currently serves as assistant principal at Wilson Elementary, will take over for Vivian Bauer, the first principal for the Ninth Grade Academy. Todd comes to Stuart with 23 years of experience in HCISD, serving as a third grade teacher at Ben Milam Elementary, a sixth grade teacher at Treasure Hills Elementary and in her current role at Wilson for the past 15 years.

“The opportunity to be the principal at Stuart has been bittersweet,” Todd said. “I’ve learned a lot during my time here at Wilson, and I’m going to miss the students and staff here. I know Stuart is a wonderful school. I am just excited to be their new leader.”

A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Todd received her masters degree from the University of Texas – Brownsville.

“Stuart Place has a history of achievement, and I’m confident that Michele Todd will continue that tradition,” Superintendent Dr. Steve Flores said. “Michele has excelled in her ability in leading a professional learning community, demonstrating her ability to be an extraordinary leader. Her experience working with children and parents in this community makes her a special addition to any school in our district.”

Also during the special meeting, the board adopted the option one calendar for next school year. The academic school year will run from August 27, 2012 through May 31, 2013.
