Greetings HCISD family,

The spirit of the season is upon us. It’s a wonderful time to reflect and celebrate the moments that give meaning to our lives. At HCISD, those moments take place each and every day within our schools. As I visit classrooms across our district, I enjoy seeing first-hand the excitement and creativity taking place in our classrooms. Side by side we have made 2016 a phenomenal year of innovation and success.

We have brought robotics to scale with our HCISD Robotics initiative. By ensuring district-wide accessibility of these STEM-related activities for our students, we have become the only district in the Valley to offer a full-scale robotics program at every campus. Sponsors across our district are doing a tremendous job providing vertical alignment across all levels.

This fall we saw the creation of new opportunities for authentic learning experiences at the elementary level with the extension of gardening and nutrition to all fourth-grade students through our GROW program as well as the start of the new Tennis and First Tee Golf Program for all third graders across the district. The elementary transformation will continue with the development of additional grade-specific initiatives for grades one and five.

Momentum will carry into the New Year as we celebrate the groundbreaking of one of our three all-inclusive playgrounds in January. As a joint effort between HCISD and the City of Harlingen, these playgrounds will serve all of the city’s children and will be a place where children with a wide spectrum of abilities can come together and have fun. Our community’s approval of the tax ratification as well as our partnership with the City is making this project a reality.

Each of these milestones is a reason to celebrate. I continue to be inspired by the talent and the overwhelming commitment of our administrators, teachers, staff, students, and community. As we prepare to enjoy the holidays, I encourage each of you to make the most of the time spent with those you love and create moments you will treasure for a lifetime. I wish you the most joyous of holiday seasons, the warmth of home, the love of family, and the company of good friends. Have a blessed Christmas and a prosperous new year.

Thank you to our students for your curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, to our educators for instilling in students your passion for knowledge, to our HCISD families and the Harlingen community for your endless support. It is my privilege to serve beside you.

Let us return with continued resolve in our mission to provide educational excellence for our students. We look forward to making 2017 a productive and positive year for our students and the Harlingen community.

We reach, we aspire, we dare to be. We are HCISD!
