South tennis star finishes 2nd in UIL State Tournament

Harlingen High School South’s Jeremiah Gonzalez walked away with a 2nd place finish at the Boys 6A Singles UIL Tennis State Tournament. Jeremiah won his quarterfinal match over Nick Ryniak from Southlake Carrol 6-1,6-1. In the semifinal, Jeremiah defeated Jordan Pitts 6-0, 1-6, 6-2. 

The May 17 state championship brings to a close an impressive career in high school tennis. A four-year state qualifier, Jeremiah has led his team to be ranked in the top 25 in the state each year he has been on the team. 

Gonzalez will continue his athletic career at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio this fall.
