Principals and Interim Principals newly named for Treasure Hills, Milam, Dishman, and Bowie Elementary

Harlingen CISD is excited to announce new principals and interim principals for four elementary campuses in the district.

Treasure Hills Elementary Principal: Jaymie Galan

Jaymie Galan has 20 years of experience in education and has served the district for the last 12 years.

Most recently, she served as principal of Bowie Elementary.

Previously, she has served as an instructional coach at Zavala Elementary and as assistant Principal at Treasure Hills Elementary.

She holds a bachelor’s in education and a master’s in bilingual education and education leadership from the University of Pan American (UTRGV). 

“As the new principal, I am dedicated to upholding the values and traditions that have made Treasure Hills an outstanding campus,” Galan said. “I am excited to build upon the successes of the past while striving to implement fresh ideas and initiatives that will further elevate our school’s reputation. I am eager to join the exceptional and dedicated staff, involved parents, and talented students as we embark on this shared journey of growth and achievement.”

 

Milam Elementary Principal: Irma Davis

Irma Davis has 28 years of experience in education and 21 years in administration. She has served HCISD for the last 19 years.

Most recently, she served as principal of Dishman Elementary for 12 years.

She began her career in education as a teacher in HCISD. She gained administrator experience serving as assistant principal and principal in other school districts before returning to HCISD as a principal.

Davis holds a bachelor’s in science and a master’s in educational administration from the University of Texas-Pan American.

“Super proud of the success and accolades that we earned at Dishman Elementary,” Davis said. “I look forward to continuing a legacy of success at Ben Milam Elementary.”

Throughout the years, Davis has earned numerous awards including: the 2019 HEB Excellence in Education Principal Award, the 2020 TEPSA National Distinguished Principal Award – Texas, and the 2020 NAESP National Distinguished Principal Award – Texas.

 

Dishman Elementary Interim Principal: Antonia Salas

Antonia Salas has 26 years of experience in Education and has served in HCISD for 21 years.

Most recently, she was the principal resident at Dr. Cano Freshman Academy.

She began her career at HCISD as a teacher at Coakley Middle School, served seven years as assistant principal at Austin Elementary, and 10 years as assistant principal at Jefferson Elementary.

Salas holds a bachelor’s in interdisciplinary studies and a minor in mathematics from the University of Texas-Pan American. She obtained a master’s in education administration from the University of Texas-Pan American.

I am very honored and blessed to have been appointed as the interim principal for Dishman Elementary,” Salas said. “I am excited to work together as a campus team to continue to move the academic needle forward and see great success for all of our students.”

 

Bowie Elementary Interim Principal: Sabrina Garza

Sabrina Garza has 21 years of experience in education and has worked as the assistant principal of Bowie Elementary for the last seven years.

Prior to starting her career in HCISD, she was an elementary classroom teacher for 15 years.

Garza holds a bachelor’s in interdisciplinary studies and a master’s in educational leadership from The University of Texas-Pan American.   

“I am honored and excited to serve our HCISD community as the Interim Principal at Bowie Elementary,” Garza said. “Together with my amazing Bowie team, I look forward to continuing our work in helping our students reach their full potential and achieve academic success.”
