Fifteen students from all five middle schools in the district competed at the annual HCISD Middle School Spelling Bee on January 26.
This year, the event was held at Vernon World Languages Academy.
Addilyn Solis, a sixth grader at Memorial Middle School was named district champion. Sebastian Martinez, a sixth grader at Memorial Middle School was named runner-up. They will represent HCISD at the 35th Annual Rio Grande Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 4, 2023,
The winner of the Rio Grande Valley Regional Spelling Bee will have an opportunity to advance to the National Spelling Bee in June.
